At The Galen Clinic, our team lead by Dr Curran, will lead you toward optimal health through a holistic systems-based approach. This method allows us to uncover and address the underlying causes of your health issues rather than just focusing on the symptoms or the diagnosis itself. By targeting the root causes, we treat the origins of the problem rather than simply alleviating the symptoms. Our approach integrates advanced diagnostics from both conventional and cutting-edge regenerative medicine to tackle the critical imbalances that lead to degeneration and disease.
SYSTEMIC IMBALANCE IN THE BODY
Diseases fundamentally arise from imbalances within the body’s systems, caused by either insufficient amounts of vital elements for health (such as nutrients, sleep, and exercise) or excessive amounts of harmful factors (such as toxins, chemicals, and stress).
SPECTRUM OF HEALTH AND ILLNESS
Health and illness exist on a spectrum; chronic diseases typically do not simply “appear” but are usually preceded by a period of declining function in one or more of the body’s essential biological systems.
IDENTIFYING THE PATHWAY TO HEALTH
Restoring health requires pinpointing and addressing the specific dysfunctions that have led to the disease state. This process relies on a personalised strategy to eliminate the obstacles to health and incorporate the essential elements for wellness.
It is modality-agnostic. The focus is on the right “medicine” for the problem, both for diagnosis and treatment. It may include the use of lifestyle, food as medicine, supplements, medications, surgery or other procedures that address the root causes and are designed to optimise and increase healthspan.
At The Galen Clinic we integrate our approach to complex chronic illness recovery, illness prevention and overall health optimisation that may include nutrition, diet, and exercise; use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of drugs and/or botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, regenerative or innovative therapies, and stress management techniques.

After meeting with Dr Curran, our Functional Medicine Consultant, you will meet with our Functional Medicine nutritionist Dr Zia Stratos, either in person at our functional medicine clinic or virtually. Our nutritionist combines the practice of “food as medicine” to create an individualised meal plan, and a multimodal treatment plan. We offer a fitness and lifestyle plan with our physical training partners that supports your unique needs.
You will meet with Dr Curran to review the functional medicine treatment plan and receive support where needed. Upon receiving test results, you will follow-up with Dr Curran and your nutritionist to review these results and discuss further individualisation of your treatment plan. From there, continued follow-up with our functional medicine specialists is determined based on your situation.
Longevity isn't just about living longer; it's about living better. It refers to extending the lifespan with an emphasis on maintaining optimal health and vitality throughout those extra years. Today's focus on longevity is less about merely resisting aging and more about embracing it with a proactive approach to health. Unlike the traditional anti-aging messaging that often fixates on cosmetic fixes, longevity today is about thriving at every age through lifestyle choices, mindset, and cutting-edge science. It’s about building resilience, improving healthspan (the number of healthy, vibrant years in your life), and using advanced science and lifestyle medicine to optimize every aspect of your health. This isn't just about looking younger; it's about feeling younger and staying biologically young, even as you age chronologically.
One of the most exciting developments in longevity research is the study of “epigenetics”—how our behaviors and environment can change the expression of our genes, potentially reversing aspects of aging. We’re also seeing groundbreaking research around geroprotective agents like Senolytics, which are drugs that target and eliminate senescent cells (“zombie”cells that contribute to aging and disease), and research into repurposing medications historically used for treating disease as geroprotecive agents that activate cellular pathways involved in longevity. We’re also seeing an explosion of exciting data demonstrating the healthspan promoting benefits of maintaining youthful hormone levels as we age. The integration of AI and big data to personalize health interventions is another promising area.
It’s never too late to start your longevity journey. While the ideal time to start is as early as possible—preferably in your 20s or 30s—making changes at any age can have profound benefits. We have data showing that even small adjustments in your 60s, 70s, or beyond can improve your healthspan and quality of life. The earlier you start, the more you can potentially stave off age-related decline, but the human body is remarkably resilient and can respond positively to healthy changes at any stage of life.
We conduct a variety of blood, saliva, stool and possibly urine tests at our functional medicine clinic. We may refer you to a radiographer or one of our other Galen specialists for more diagnostics depending on your case
