About

Breast implant removal and replacement is either a request from the patient for a different size or shape of the breast or an indication due to unforeseen changes of the implants.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Women with implants over time might experience changes including local hardening or injuries that have caused damage. In these cases or if the patient desires a change in the size or shape of their breasts, a surgical breast implant removal and replacement of the old implants is indicated.

The old scars will be excised, the implants will be removed and the pockets where the implants were sitting will be thoroughly cleaned. If there is a hard encapsulation, this will be addressed with the so called capsulotomy (small incisions across the capsule to release tension).

If the patient requires a bigger size breast, the existing pocket will be extended to accommodate the new implants. When the patient wants smaller breasts, a small uplift will normally be needed at the same time of the operation.

Lastly, If the patient wishes for complete breast implant removal in London there are two possibilities: To either replace the volume of the implant with fat grafting or accept the smaller size with a possible breast uplift. Once the desired shape and size is achieved the wound will be closed with sutures and a special skin glue.
