Chemical Peel

Cell turnover in our skin slows down naturally as we age, resulting in a build up of older skin cells that can cause a dull and lifeless appearance. An AHA (alpha hydroxyl acid) or TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peel is a medical-grade, medium-depth peel designed to treat scarring and pigmentation by speeding up exfoliation and freeing skin from the build up of dead skin cells. Chemical exfoliation of the outermost layers of the skin reveals fresh new skin for a revitalised complexion and overall youthful appearance. The type of peel and the depth of treatment you receive is tailored to your condition and the type of skin you have, which will be discussed prior to treatment with your experienced medical practitioner. A bespoke treatment course of peels will be designed and recommended for you to meet your skin goals.

About

Chemical peels are cosmetic procedures that involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes controlled damage to the outermost layers of the skin, leading to exfoliation and subsequent skin rejuvenation.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The chemical solution is applied to the skin using a brush, sponge, or other applicator. The type and strength of the chemical solution used will depend on the specific skin concern being addressed, as well as the individual's skin type and sensitivity.

The chemical solution is left on the skin for a specific duration, depending on the desired depth of peel and the type of chemical solution used. During this time, the solution penetrates the skin and reacts with the outermost layers, causing controlled damage.

After the chemical solution has been applied and allowed to react, it is neutralised or washed off, and the skin is gently cleansed. Over the following days to weeks, the damaged outer layers of the skin start to peel or exfoliate, revealing fresher, newer skin underneath.

The exfoliation process triggered by the chemical peel promotes skin cell turnover, stimulates collagen production, and improves skin texture, tone, and overall appearance. The new skin that emerges after the peeling process is typically smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking.
